Rosin: History and Facts
Posted: May 01 2015
The new trend of the year is Rosin. Everyone is stealing their sisters hair straighteners or buying cheap Revlons from London Drugs. Lets take a look back at where it all started.. Hash!
The name hashish comes from the Arabic word ( حشيش ) which means grass. Hashish, or hash, is a cannabis product composed of compressed or purified preparations of stalked resin glands, called trichomes. It dates back to tens of thousands years and is used worldwide spiritually, medicinally, and recreational.
There are three main procedures to get different variants of hash. Drysifting, water and ice separation, and chemical separations using solvents such as butane and iso. And now... Rosin... Rosin is the 'raw resin' that is extracted from hashish or plant material via heat and pressure. A short exposure to a high heat and pressure will yield the oil that is contained within the glandular trichome head. The moisture content of the starting material greatly determines the end result. As the resulting steam during the extraction helps the oils leech out of the material. Having a more pure starting product i.e hash vs. flower will also yield higher amounts of rosin while needing a lower temperature to do so, and be less dependent on moisture. In general the lower temperature and time under heat, the more terpenes will be present, which means a tastier product.
